PROJECT MISSION

ARES is aimed at providing a launch test bed and payload service for customers and developing affordable and sustainable commercial rocketry solutions. 

Project Goals

Complete the 3D printed, rocket: Scylla (4.5 ft length, Mach 0.6, 4K ft apogee). Scylla’s hardware will be tested, including avionics and black powder testing.  

Create a business pitch for ARES customers: This pitch will allow ARES to give a tried and tested introduction to any potential business partners.

Complete upgrades to existing vehicle platforms: These upgrades will increase vehicle capabilities with a new payload system, reliability via custom circuit board, and reduce costs long term with better rocket performance. 

Project Deliverables

  1. Rocket Team
  2. Task: Complete the build of Harmonia, the newest ARES rocket.
  3. Details: A build plan will be created and followed. This includes the construction of the aerostructure and propulsion system, as well as significant outer parts like the nosecone.
  4. Development Team
  1. Task: Complete a preliminary design review for the Camera Module – Payload Storage Unit (CM-PSU).
  2. This will provide Phobos with more capabilities and allow more options for customers.
  3. Operations Team
  1. Task: Update the comprehensive catalog that showcases the various rocket platforms offered by Project ARES.
  2. Details: By the end of the semester, the catalog will be updated to include all current rocket platforms, including those created during the semester.

Next Steps

  • Begin construction of Operation Hummingbird and potentially launch next semester.
  • Plan to launch with our first customer and pursue more for all our rocket platforms in the immediate future.
  • Complete NDE analysis for all rocket platforms, integrate a camera system, and develop our GPS guidance software.
