The Tech Team’s goals for the spring 2021 semester were to design and manufacture the control surfaces and wire and program the flight control unit, control surface servos, and other electronics. The PixHawk 4 was chosen as the flight control unit and fully programmed to communicate with the sensors. The ailerons, horizontal stabilizer, and vertical stabilizer were all implemented with servos that responded to the PixHawk and input from the pilot. The Tech Team aided the Build Team with the assembly process. The team also started working on parametric design.
The team is now rewiring the electronics, conducting tests on the controls and engines, and adding wing flaps to the truss-braced wing in anticipation of the second flight. The team will also continue with the parametric design process by integrating the code with GitHub and start using the system to generate empennage geometry. The team will also research new wing configurations.
